Vinyl wraps “definitely the way to go” for commercial vessels

With a fleet that includes several high-speed catamarans running regular tours in the Bay of Islands and Auckland, Explore NZ were keen to find a cost effective and durable alternative to paint for their boats. With a wrap costing around a third of a comparable paint job, it’s no surprise Explore NZ opted for vinyl.

Aside from the cost of application, one of the key advantages of vinyl wrapping over painting is its ease of maintenance. Commercial vessels in regular use tend to take the odd knock or two, and touching up paint jobs is both time-consuming and relatively expensive. But with a vinyl wrap, the application of a patch takes no longer than a couple of minutes, and can be done by just about anyone.

What’s more the high-impact colour used on Explore NZ’s fleet still looks as good today as it did when applied six years ago. All in all, it’s no wonder Explore NZ’s Jim Whitehorn said “for commercial vessels it’s definitely the way to go”.
